Laser-activated cosmetic surgery (liposuction)
is the revolutionary exciting painless way to improve the postoperative result, reduce pain, and improve scarring. It involves the use of low level laser energy to stimulate the wound healing factors. When used in conjunction with liposuction, it literally breaks the fat cell open to facilitate its removal. When this occurs, more fat is removed in a safer atraumatic way. In addition, it reduces the pain postoperatively to a negligible level. Dr. Dedo is the father of laser-activated cosmetic surgery and he learned laser-activated liposuction from Dr. Rodrigo Neira in Calle Colombia. Since January of 2001, as Dr. Dedo teaches and publishes his results with this technique, more and more cosmetic surgeons have substantiated not only Dr. Dedo's results but those of Dr. Rodrigo Neira. The basis for this laser energy is the Erconia Laser which has a wavelength of 632 nanometers and is red in color. By stimulating the wound healing, the postoperative scar is markedly reduced. In addition, by stimulating and turning off the sensory nerves, the patient experiences much less pain.
Tumescent liposuction:
This is a technique developed by Dr. Jeffrey Klein in Coronado, California that has revolutionized liposuction. Since the mid 80's when it was first introduced, it has literally created a quantum leap in the safety and efficacy of liposuction. When tumescent liposuction is combined with low level laser energy, the results are 21st Century cosmetic surgery. Enhanced healing, smoother skin, less bruising all benefit the patient.
Low frequency liposuction:
Dr. Dedo introduced the concept of low frequency liposuction in 2000. This technique cuts the operating time in half, enhances the removal of fat and reduces the trauma associated with classic liposuction procedures.
What to expect after laser-activated liposuction surgery?
Following surgery, you will be fitted with a magnetic compression garment. Dr. Dedo has shown in a highly sophisticated study that magnetic fields reduce pain. They do not affect wound healing or inflammation but they do reduce pain. Next to the skin are placed absorbant pads to take care of the liquid that naturally drains out in the first 24 hours. Following this, you will wear this magnetic compression garment 24 hours a day for the first week. After that, either this garment or a substitute compression garment is worn for the following 3-4 weeks while you are up. It is not necessary at night when you sleep.
What about pain?
In reality, after the first 24 hours which may require one Percocet, the patient simply requires Tylenol.
Laser vibra rolling: What is it?
It has been shown that endermology, which is a technique of rolling the skin under vacuum, improves the postoperative liposuction result by creating a smoother surface. A combination of a roller attached to a vibrating device pulsates, massages and rolls out the areas treated with liposuction. By exposing the treated areas to the low level laser energy, the postoperative result is markedly enhanced. Everyday postoperatively, the patient is brought back. The areas that have undergone liposuction are treated with a laser and vibra roller to enhance and smooth the result. It is analogous to leveling concrete once it has been poured. Dr. Dedo again is the alpha center for its use and strongly believes in the efficacy of this procedure.
