Botox Cosmetic
BOTOX COSMETIC INJECTIONS
What is BOTOX® Cosmetic?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a chemical made from Botulism toxin that temporarily paralyzes the muscles of expression. This blocks the transmission of a nerve impulse into the muscle. It is safe and it is probably one of the most frequently performed cosmetic procedures in the world today!
Will BOTOX® Cosmetic correct wrinkles?
BOTOX® Cosmetic injections will not correct lines and depression that are present in repose (without expression or facial movement). When these exist then fillers must be used such as Radiesse, Restylane, collagen, or fat.
How does BOTOX® Cosmetic work if it does not correct lines?
By temporarily paralyzing the muscles (the effect may last from 3-6 months) it makes the forehead carry-over area and other areas of the face appear smooth on animation. For example, by weakening the muscles around the eye, one can markedly reduce the crows feet that are seen when a patient smiles. In addition, by paralyzing the frown area, one does not look as tired nor as mean.
What is Dr. Dedo’s personal opinion?
Patients love BOTOX® Cosmetic! With good reason, they are initially reluctant to try something that they are not familiar with, but after the first injection when they see the softening effect of the BOTOX® Cosmetic, then patients come back on a regularly scheduled basis to maintain the more youthful face
Are there any problems with BOTOX® Cosmetic?
The good news is that whatever may occur as a result of BOTOX® Cosmetic is only temporary since it lasts for 3-6 months. Rarely, if the chemical affects the evaders of the eye, then one can end up with the upper eyelid falling down. There is a medical treatment for this to correct it until the effect wears off at the neuromuscular junction. In other areas of the face, if too much BOTOX® is injected then one can wind up with temporary weakness of the corners of the mouth.
